Home improvement ideas 4 kids in the bedroom
Your child’s bedroom is probably a mess right now and in the rare chance that it’s not, relish that moment! Some project ideas for your child’s room is to build a bookcase or bookshelf for storage. Have your child paint them the color of their choosing and let them paint as much as they need too. For a little girl’s room, get hanging racks from your local craft store and allow your little girl to paint and decorate the racks. They can later be used to hang her bows, ribbons or jewelry.

If you have a family pet this is always a fun project for any kid – make a dog bed or dog toys. Allow your child to pick out the fabric and bedding choice. Depending on their age, teach them how to use a glue gun. You can also have them use Velcro to build the bed and then stuff with stuffing. Old socks, shoes, dolls and sports balls are great items to recycle into a dog or cat toy. Let their creative juices flow and let them build a safe toy for your pet.

Bird feeders! This is great for the whole family in the long run. Many different home improvement stores and/or craft stores sell the basic kits; all you need is the proper suggested supplies and colors to create a birdfeeder. Stepping stones are very popular for gardens, especially when personalized with your child’s name and handprint. You can find kits at the home improvement store; don’t forget to add pretty pebbles and marbles! Wooden dollhouses are also great projects to help your kids make in the backyard.

Two words: Chalkboard Paint. Get an old or new cork board and let your child paint with chalkboard paint. Once this is completed you can hang in the or near the kitchen to write the grocery list. Tired of trying to figure out where the ladle or your favorite stirring spoon is? Get old cans and allow the kids to paint and use other crafts like glitter, buttons and paper to create storage for your cooking utensils on the countertop. Always follow the proper safety rules and always supervise your child when working on projects. The key is to make it fun and easy long enough to keep their attention. Enjoy and happy crafting!

It’s so nice that you’ve written a project where children can contribute to the things we use in the house. My kids are into arts, I always wanted to support them and at the same time have them interested in spending time inside the house. This is one brilliant idea to get them involve.
I still don’t have kinds but loves to have one in the future. I like this article. It develops child creativity and problem solving. Would love to try this one with my kids soon.. 🙂
A mate of mine recently went back to Sydney for a vacation and he was telling us that when he used our storage facility when he moved out of the city, he found items that he recycled for his kids to use for home improvement. He then moved these items from our storage facility to his current place, and he had the most fun recycling or re-using these items. It was great for his kids’ creativity, too.
Hey Anne,
I think you forgot cubby houses! You can get flat pack ones which the kids can help you put together and its a pretty fun family project.
The best part is that once the kids start playing in them you have hours and hours of peace! hahaha
True, Steve. This is a fun project. I remember doing this with our kids when they were very little. We even painted it. They loved it so much.
We have completed several of the chalkboard paint projects not only in the kitchen, but all over the house for the little guys. It is a very easy project that I recommend to most of my clients with young children. I remember I wasn’t allowed to write on the walls when I was a kid!
Lots of parents are finding this idea really useful. Some are even creating chalk boards outside in the shed or by the back door. This gives the kids the joy of having the board, and the parents, the satisfaction from not having to clean up so often 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.
We recently had a project where we used a similar product. It actually allows you to make a dry erase board. It takes about a week to set but it is amazing when complete. You can use it right on the sheetrock.
Hi Nancy and Anne,
Yes, these are great ideas! A better way for kids to spend their time on rather than watch TV all day long or play games on the computer.
I love the Pet Projects’ home improvement ideas. We have a kitty who loves to play and it would be fun to encourage my young nephew and niece to get creative and build toys and perhaps a bed for the kitty.
Thanks for stopping by, Theresa. Yes, I think the pet project is ideal for families with pets. It’ll show kids how to take care of their animals and add a bit of fun in the activity as well.
Great to get the kids involved in this type of work – so long as its not dangerous of course – from an early age. Makes them good with their hands and makes them appreciate a nice looking place!
Yes, I think so too, Elena. My kids love getting involved (well, my girls do). I think that kids feel a valued part of the family when they’re asked to take on little responsibilities.
Yes, i agree with you with regard to the responsibilities. And of course, they are more likely to pass on such behavior to kids they may have too.
these are great ideas- i love the outdoor ones especially!
Glad you liked them, Cassie. Outdoor activities are great for this time of year, aren’t they?
